LOVING, SERVING, AND GROWING THE KINGDOM ONE PERSON AT A TIME

Proverbs 10:17

"Whoever accepts correction is on the way to life, but whoever ignores correction will lead others away from life." (NCV)

What is God saying?

Correction is good for people, because it makes our lives better.

What is God saying to us today?

For some reason, most of us don't like being corrected. It's not that we think we're perfect, but we like to think that we're doing just fine. Yet when someone comes along and tries to correct us, our egos get hurt and we frequently get defensive. And while there are people out there who correct others in a non-helpful and sometimes abusive way, the vast majority of the correction we receive is actually for our own good. Proper correction has made us better spellers, better cookers, better drivers, better workers, and even better Christians. When we are open to receiving correction, our lives improve. But imagine someone who ignored correction - it would be difficult to read their writing, eat their food, ride in their car, work with them, etc. So, even though it might be somewhat difficult to be confronted with the reality that we aren't perfect and need to improve in some areas, it really is worth it.

What is God inviting us to do?

Are you open-minded or close-minded when it comes to being corrected? God invites us to receive correction, especially from Him, with an open mind and heart, knowing that He is doing it for our ultimate good.
